Introduction

SMNC has been operating prior to 1975 and exists in it's current form so that all childeren from St. Michael's Primary School who wish to play Netball are able to participate. SMNC also welcomes former students, parish students and other interested students to our club.

Who is eligible
There is a team for every child and children as young as 8 can play. These younger players (Netta) start with a modified version of the game which teaches them skills, basics and how to enjoy the game whilst playing with their friends. Our non-Netta contingent covers the 8-12 age groups. Any child can join, register and play at any stage.

Game times
SMNC participates in the winter competition that is run by Northern Suburbs Netball Association (NSNA) and is based at their outdoor Netball complex in Willoughby. This venue is only a short distance from our school by private transport. All game times, grades etc are fixed by NSNA prior to the commencement of the season and do not change, except in a minor manner for Netta players. Games are played on Friday nights (for Netta’s and the 10’s division) or Saturday mornings (for 11’s & 12’s).  The season generally commences late March, early April and concludes early September. There are no games during school holidays or on public holidays.

Parent Involvement
SMNC is run entirely by volunteer parents and ex-students who perform the roles of coaches, managers, umpires, duty personnel and committee members. The committee is a small band of elected parents who share the responsibilities that are required to successfully manage the club and comply with NSNA guidelines.

Training
Team training is conducted on the school premises by the team coach and usually takes place immediately after school on school days. Most teams train once per week.

Uniform
The SMNC uniform consists of the SMNC shirt, a specially designed netball skirt, white or monogrammed socks, navy scungies, school cardigan, a (optional) polar fleece vest, (optional) sun visor and (optional) school track suit.  All of which (excluding the shirt which is provided by SMNC) can be purchased from the school uniform shop. Netball shirts will be distributed at Grading Day or training sessions prior to the start of the season.  Game bibs are provided by the coach at the start of every game.
